Choosing Your Jeep Wrangler Grille

Your Jeep Wrangler's grille isn't just for aesthetics—it's also important for protecting your engine, radiator, and other important parts under your hood. Whether your grille is older and in need of replacement or you're just looking to upgrade, changing out the grille is simple enough that you could even do it at home.

Choosing the Correct Grille

Changing out your grille is one of the easiest ways to customize your Jeep Wrangler. When choosing a new grille, you want to keep one question in mind: Are you upgrading for aesthetics or practical, off-road purposes? If you take your Jeep off-road a lot, you might want to opt for a high-flow grille. If you don't, you can lean more into the rugged appearance rather than function.

When you've decided which type of grille to purchase, you can decide whether you want to use the manufacturer's parts or if you'd rather use aftermarket parts instead. Looking for aftermarket parts will save you money, and give you more wiggle room when it comes to choosing the final look you want.

What You'll Need

  • Jeep Wrangler Grille
  • Jeep Wrangler Grill gasket kit
  • A Phillips screwdriver
  • A wrench with an 8mm socket head

How to Replace Your Grille

  1. Pop the hood.Locate the six pins along the base. Use a screwdriver to pry the pins loose, and put them in a place where they won't get lost (you should do this with all small parts).
  2. Unplug the turn signal. The last thing you want is to accidentally rip the wiring to your turn signal and deal with a repair.
  3. Switch out the grille. Once the pins are out and your signal is unplugged, all you have to do is slide the old grille off and put the new one on. Make sure you plug your turning indicator back in, or you'll have to go back and fix it later. Once the new grille is in place, replace the pins. You can either use the pins that were already on your vehicle or the pins that come with the new grille.
